Take a Long-Awaited First Look at the Exciting New 2019 Jeep Renegade!

Enthusiasts of the all-terrain SUV experience here in Corry continue to love the 2018 Jeep Renegade. The compact crossover has tested its mettle as the rugged choice in the 75-year Jeep tradition, after all. As it's loaded with the latest features to boot, you, too, can find it true for nearly any trek. But now that we know Jeep is charging headlong into 2019 with a new model, too, our dealership's biggest off-road fans can't wait to see it appear alongside its sibling here in our corner of northwestern PA.

Car and Driver magazine spying the new Jeep Renegade on the European market gives us some clues as to what to expect. The front and rear fascia, for example, have been tweaked, offering new headlights and taillights that accent a new lower bumper design. New wheels might be in the mix, too, if the glimpse the auto pros got of what appears to be the new Renegade Limited trim is any indication. From what we know of the current 2018 Renegade Trailhawk, Sport, and Latitude models, however, we think we can continue to expect each new SUV to have its own, unique look.

Are new engines in store, too? Based on Jeep commentary, we believe so. The new Renegade will likely at least hold the line with its two fuel-efficient models, a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter Tigershark and a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-four, but we'd soft-bet on a bump in horsepower and torque for the excursion. The recently unveiled Jeep five-year plan presentation, however, is the most telling on the subject, hinting at an electrified model but declining to specify an ETA.

So, what of capability overall? Current Renegade models certainly offer optional 4x4 systems like Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low as well as an available Selec-Terrain system with modes for churning through snow and sand, getting through mud, and crawling rocks. Ditto for up to 70 advanced safety features, from LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus to remain on track to Forward Collision Warning-Plus for avoiding accidents. 2018 Renegade Trailhawk even offered best-in-class Trail Rated® 4x4 capability, a 20:1 crawl ratio for tough crags, a towering 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and the ability to ford water up to 19 inches deep. That's not to mention tow hooks front and rear, making possible hauling up to 2,000 pounds with an available tow package.

Will 2019 Renegade be as tech-savvy? We surely appreciated its 5-, 7-, and 8.4-inch touchscreen-equipped Uconnect® infotainment system options. They incorporate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in models from Renegade Sport to Renegade Latitude and Limited, letting your smartphone come along for the adventure.

These are questions that only Jeep can answer, which we expect they may do later this year, most likely in the fall. Until then, you needn't wait to get the Jeep Renegade experience.
